Nuisance bothering you?
Written by Admin Team

101 is a new 24-hour single non-emergency number provided by your police and local council to deal with community safety issues, including specific non-emergency crimes as listed in the bulleted points below, policing and anti-social behaviour. 101 will be available across England and Wales from 2008 but was launched in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight in May 2006.

The service provides action, advice and information to the public on community safety issues, and allows greater coordination between local councils and police. You may use 101 to report:
  • Vandalism, graffiti and other deliberate damage to property
  • Noise related issues
  • Intimidation and harassment
  • Abandoned vehicles
  • Fly tipping and litter
  • People being drunk and rowdy in public places
  • Drug related anti-social behaviour
  • Defective street lighting
  • 101 Logo

The 101 service is just for non-emergency problems. If you have an emergency problem you should dial the 999 emergency service.

Calls to 101 are answered within 30 seconds. The national 101 website provides more information, including information in alternative languages.

    Calling 999

As an organisation we receive and respond to a huge volume of phone calls, ranging from emergency response to non-urgent general enquiries.

So please only use 999 to report emergency situations

There is a helpful mnemonic to remember when to use 999:

    • Phone 999 only if:
    • Offenders are nearby
    • Life is at risk
    • Injury is caused or threatened
    • Crime or disorder is in progress
    • Emergency situations

To ensure that the most appropriate response can be provided, Call Management has a number of departments, each structured to deal efficiently with the variety of contacts received.
